K451

Intro

As my hometown, due to work reasons and the blockade of the epidemic, my memory of Xinjiang and the northwest still remains in many years ago. This familiar homecoming train K451 takes its route as the main line, passing through Gansu and then returning to Xinjiang, back to Korla. Geographically, the towns along this route are located in northwest China with harsh natural conditions. In terms of historical background, these towns on this route are important nodes on the ancient Silk Road and also in today's "Belt and Road" initiative. They have experienced vigorous development during the period of western development but also face current issues such as massive population outflow and slowing economic growth.

Faced with this rich historical heritage as well as the development and problems of a new era, I return to this land in northwest China to witness people's lives here and witness its changes through my camera lens. I record traces belonging to this place: the dry land, apple trees piercing into the blue sky, relics left by ancestors, abandoned furniture by roadsides, newly built structures rising from ground while old ones about to be demolished, colorful decorations inside residents' homes. These traces come from confronting nature, from changing times, from urban development, they come from steadfastness towards land and pursuit of beauty. These traces not only serve as proof of life but also proof of strength.
